Our whole family went to the Farmer’s Market this morning. It is always a fun activity, even if you do not buy anything, but this morning we did find some nice vegetables. We got beets for $2 a bunch, $2 for a 5 lb. bag of cucumbers that are good for eating or salads, $2 for a large bunch of carrots, which the boys like to snack on…I know that is on the high side for carrots, but it is a nice way for them to eat carrots. $1 a pound bag for pickling cucumbers so I am going to make pickles and $1 for a large bag of Transparent apples. I also got a large bag of basil leaves so I am going to make some Bruchetta or pesto either today or tomorrow.
A lady was selling Tamales there, also and we thought we would try one. It was really good, stuffed with shredded beef, but kind of small. We all split it, it was not my husband’s favorite, but the older 2 boys liked it and the younger ones, tried a bite at least.
It was a fun outing, and we have a bunch of vegetables. I think I did better with prices sometimes at the grocery store, but the food is fresher and locally grown this way!
Around here, fruits and veggies are cheaper at the grocery store. But sometimes it is most definitely worth a little extra money to buy local and to soak in the environment.
Sounds like a fun day with the family!
