What kind of things do you that are educational, easy and fun?
I know that many people don’t think fun and school should be in the same sentence, but for us, in the summer, I do not want them to forget everything, but I want them to still learn some over the summer.
Last year we did some math, but not much and we did lots of reading! It really helped P. to improve his reading immensely, but I was trying to think of some other ideas that are enjoyable, and yet learning. I was thinking about them writing or making pictures of all the things they do this summer and was curious about what else other people do!
Yesterday we went to coop and had math lessons on money and fractions. First they all counted money, then listened to a reading on how money was made and the symbols on it, the older children did story problems and the younger ones played with the money. We had pizza for lunch that Domino’s
donated. They left them whole for us, so we learned about fractions using the pizza before we ate it for lunch. It was fun and very productive!
I could really use a math lesson right now– especially with pepperoni and mushrooms! :-) Mmmmm…
Let's see, if we actually took the summer off, fun school would be art projects and science projects. Things that get put on the back-burner whenever things get busy around here. I think it would also be fun to do more cooking with the kids, maybe some carpentry projects, and the basics of sign language (or astronomy or whatever is not in your current year's plan).
Whatever you decide, I hope it's as much fun for you as it is for your kids!
