1. They loved to Laugh by Kathryn Worth

One of my favorite books growing up, the story of an orphaned young woman, taken in by a Quaker doctor’s family and learned how to bake, weave, and be a part of a family.

2. The Harvester by Gene Stratton Porter

A young herb gatherer shows true love and sacrifice in a very selfless way, giving up himself for the one he loves

3. Things we could not say by Diet Emans

This true story of a woman and her friends, who sacrificed so much to save others. This book is not sugar coated at how hard it was, Diet suffered breakdowns from the emotional stress and lost so much, but the story is so incredible about how they were willing to do this, to save a few.

4. Papa’s Wife and Papa’s Daughter

I love this heartwarming story of first the mother and then the daughter, as they move from Sweden to America, learn about being a pastor’s wife, and having children. Humorous in many places!

5. Dust and Ashes by Tricia Goyer

When a wife of an S.S officer discovers the horrors of the camp near her town, she sets out to see what she can do to help the victims recover. She faces the tradegy of  facing what her husband did and his lack of sorrow over it.

6. On Call by Dr. David Thompson

I loved this story of a missionary doctor in Africa. It is exciting, yet really real. Part of the Jaffery series of missionary stories, this one was my favorite and was well read over the years.

I LOVE Papa’s Wife, I have laughed at that book so many times. I love the part about Papa not wanting a red haired baby and what he thought caused it.
